Refined Sugar Free Whipped Cream

This refined sugar free whipped cream is a lovely way to dress up desserts for special occasions. It’s sweetened only with date paste so it’s ideal if you’re trying to avoid regular white sugar.

Years ago some visitors brought over a lovely peach pie and a carton of heavy cream to make freshly whipped cream to serve with the pie. I didn’t have any sugar to put in the whipped cream but didn’t want to disappoint my guests, so I improvised and used maple syrup to sweeten the cream instead. It turned out great.

Refined Sugar Free Whipped Cream – Key Ingredients & Substitutions

It occurred to me that if maple syrup works well in whipped cream, maybe date paste would too. I gave it a try and it was delicious. Date paste is higher in fiber than maple syrup and contains plenty of vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants so it seemed like a better choice to me.

If you’d rather not use date paste you can substitute can maple syrup or raw honey in this recipe and the results are good too. I just prefer the taste of date paste so that’s what I generally opt for.

Use this refined sugar free whipped cream to top fresh fruit, pies or instead of frosting on cakes or cupcakes. Add a dollop of this whipped cream to this refined sugar free chocolate cake to take it to the next level. Or use this to top this hot cocoa recipe. You can also add a couple of teaspoons of cocoa powder to this recipe and turn it into chocolate whipped cream.

You can make this refined sugar free whipped cream in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days. Alternatively you can freeze it for longer term storage.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 35% cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons date paste see my date paste recipe for instructions

Instructions

  • Combine the cream, date paste, and vanilla in a large bowl.
  • Use an electric mixer to beat at medium speed for approximately 8 minutes or until a whipped cream texture is achieved (or whisk by hand in a large bowl if you have the patience and arm strength!).
  • Makes 2 cups of refined sugar free whipped cream.
