Ingredients and substitutions
I prefer to use chopped dark chocolate when making these chocolate covered hazelnuts, but you can substitute any type of chocolate you prefer. Or you can use chocolate chips if you’d prefer to skip the step of chopping the chocolate.
I prefer to use toasted hazelnuts when making this recipe because the toasting process enhances both the flavor and texture of the hazelnuts. You can substitute raw hazelnuts if you prefer.
How to make them
Start by adding the chopped dark chocolate to a pot on the stove set to low heat. Cook until the chocolate has melted, stirring constantly, then immediately remove the pot from the heat.
Add the toasted hazelnuts to the pot of melted chocolate, then gently stir, ensuring that the hazelnuts are completely coated in chocolate.
Use a fork to pick up 3-4 chocolate-coated hazelnuts and place them in a cluster on a sheet pan or large plate lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Immediately add a small pinch of sea salt on top, if desired.
Repeat this process with the remaining hazelnuts.
Place the sheet pan or plate of chocolate hazelnuts in the fridge to harden for at least one hour before serving.
Storage
Store these chocolate hazelnuts in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
