This delicious chocolate smoothie is made with sweet potato. It’s loaded with nutrients and perfect if you’re looking for sweet breakfast ideas, like this sunflower seed smoothie recipe, which is another great option to try.
Ingredients and Substitutions
Sweet potatoes are rich in beta carotene, fiber, and antioxidants. They add natural sweetness to this smoothie.

I like to add a little extra sweetness to this smoothie by including a couple of Medjool dates. You can substitute any other type of date you prefer, but I love Medjool dates because they have a particularly sweet, caramel-like flavor and a moist texture that blends up easily. You can reduce the amount to one date if you prefer to keep this smoothie a bit lower in sugar, but in that case the smoothie will only be subtly sweet.
Cocoa powder gives this smoothie its chocolaty flavor. You can use either natural cocoa powder or Dutch-process cocoa powder. Or you can substitute raw cacao powder if you prefer.
You can use any type of unsweetened milk you like in this smoothie. I went with almond milk this time, but I also like soy milk or oat milk.

How to Make This Chocolate Sweet Potato Smoothie
Start by removing the pits from the dates, then add them to a blender. Next you’ll add the sweet potato, cocoa powder, milk, and cold water to the blender.
