Ingredients and Substitutions
I like to use ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots when making this recipe. You can use bananas that are a bit less ripe if you prefer, but the end result won’t be quite as sweet.

I prefer to use chopped dark chocolate in this mousse, but you can substitute chocolate chips or any type of chopped chocolate you like.
Vanilla extract complements the other flavors in this mousse. I recommend using pure vanilla extract as opposed to artificial vanilla flavoring if possible.
How to Make Banana Chocolate Mousse
Add the chopped chocolate to a pot on the stove set to low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the chocolate has melted, then immediately remove the pot from the heat.

Add the bananas, melted dark chocolate, and vanilla extract to a food processor or blender.
Blend until smooth.
Transfer that mixture to a bowl or container, then refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.
