Chlorella powder adds plenty of nutrients and a fresh, clean flavor to this simple smoothie. It’s easy to make, creamy, and delicious.
Ingredients and Substitutions
Chlorella powder is made from dried, ground chlorella, which is a type of freshwater green algae. It’s rich in protein, iron, beta carotene, B12, omega-3, and chlorophyll. The cell wall of chlorella is hard to digest, so be sure to choose “broken cell wall” chlorella powder because that kind is much easier to digest.

Banana adds sweetness and a creamy texture to this smoothie. You can substitute a Medjool date instead of the banana if you prefer.
I like to use apple in this smoothie, but you can substitute 1/2 cup of berries or any type of chopped fruit you like.
Vanilla extract is delicious in this smoothie and enhances the other flavors perfectly. You can omit the vanilla if you prefer.
I like to add a small pinch of sea salt to balance the sweetness of this smoothie. You can skip the salt if you prefer.
You can use any type of unsweetened milk you like in this smoothie. I went with soy milk this time.
How to Make a Chlorella Smoothie
Peel the banana, break it into pieces, then add it to a blender. Add the chlorella powder, chopped apple, vanilla extract, sea salt, and unsweetened milk of choice to the blender.
