How to Make Chocolate Dipped Oranges

These chocolate dipped oranges are an easy and delicious addition to any dessert table. Theyโ€™re perfect for the holidays and can be prepared in advance. A sprinkle of fresh orange zest gives these juicy treats a big boost of citrusy flavor that contrasts beautifully with dark chocolate.

Ingredients and substitutions

I like to use fresh clementine oranges when making these chocolate covered oranges, because their segments are bite sized which makes them easy to eat and perfect for parties. You can use any other type of orange you prefer (but I donโ€™t recommend using frozen or canned oranges).

I like using dark chocolate because the subtle bitterness contrasts so nicely with the bright, tangy flavor of the oranges. You can substitute any type of chocolate you prefer.

Fresh orange zest really boosts the orangey flavor of these treats. You can omit the zest if youโ€™re in a hurry but I definitely recommend including it if possible.

How to make chocolate dipped oranges

Start by adding the chocolate chips to a pot on the stove set to low heat. Stir constantly until the chocolate has melted and there are no solid lumps remaining, then remove the pot from the heat and transfer the melted chocolate to a bowl. Alternatively you can melt the chocolate in the microwave if you prefer.

Use a grater or zester to remove the zest from one of the oranges, then reserve. Next youโ€™ll peel the oranges and gently pull the segments apart to separate them.
