This chocolate tahini smoothie is sweet, rich, and creamy. The nutty, earthy flavor of tahini complements the subtle bitterness of chocolate in this delicious smoothie.
Ingredients and Substitutions
Tahini is a creamy paste made from ground sesame seeds. It’s rich in B vitamins, phosphorus, and manganese. Tahini is usually available at grocery stores, but if you have trouble finding it then try a health food store or you can order it online.

Cocoa powder gives this smoothie its chocolate flavor. I used natural cocoa powder, but Dutch-process or raw cacao powder work too.
I like to sweeten this smoothie with a couple of dates. You can substitute a ripe banana if you prefer.
You can use any type of unsweetened milk you like in this smoothie. I went with soy milk.
A small amount of sea salt enhances the other flavors in this smoothie nicely. You can omit the salt if you prefer.
How to Make a Chocolate Tahini Smoothie
Remove the pits from the dates, then add them to a blender. Add the tahini, cocoa powder, unsweetened milk of choice, and sea salt to the blender.
Blend until smooth.
