These chocolate walnuts are an easy, elegant, nutrient-dense treat. They’re perfect for entertaining and make a great addition to any dessert table. These chocolate covered walnuts are subtly sweet, crunchy, and totally satisfying. They also make great homemade Christmas gifts or hostess gifts.
Ingredients and substitutions
You can use either raw or toasted walnuts in this recipe. Be sure to use walnut halves as opposed to chopped walnuts.
I like using dark chocolate in this recipe but you can use any type of chocolate that suits your taste and dietary requirements.
How to make chocolate walnuts
Start by adding the dark chocolate to a microwave safe bowl, then cook on high power for 20 seconds.
Stir, then cook for another 20 seconds. Repeat this process until the chocolate has melted (this takes 120 seconds total in my microwave, but individual microwave strengths will vary). Alternatively you can melt the chocolate in a pot on the stove set to low heat, stirring constantly until melted.
Next you’ll drop one walnut half into the bowl of melted chocolate, then use a spoon to gently stir and evenly coat it in chocolate.
Use two forks to lift the walnut half out of the melted chocolate, allowing any excess chocolate to drip back down into the bowl, then place it on a large plate lined with parchment paper.
Next you’ll place a second walnut half (don’t dip this one in chocolate) directly on top of the chocolate dipped walnut half.
Then you’ll use a spoon to drizzle some melted chocolate on top.
Repeat this process with the rest of the walnuts.
Place the plate of chocolate covered walnuts in the fridge to harden for at least 45 minutes before serving.
Storage
Store these treats in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Giving these as gifts
These treats would make great homemade Christmas gifts or hostess gifts. Just add some to a cellophane bag, paper box, or tin and add a pretty ribbon and a label.
