This simple date and avocado smoothie is creamy and delicious. I love the combination of the sweet, caramel-like flavor of dates and the rich texture of avocados. Give this a try if you’re looking for drinkable breakfast or snack recipes, like this chocolate sweet potato smoothie, which is another great option.
Ingredients and Substitutions
I like to use Medjool dates in the smoothie because they’re particularly sweet and have a moist texture that blends up easily. Any other type of date works too though.

Avocado gives this smoothie such a luscious texture. I usually use fresh avocado, but frozen chopped avocado works too.
Cocoa powder makes this smoothie taste like a delicious chocolate milkshake. You can omit the cocoa powder if you prefer, or substitute 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
You can use any type of unsweetened milk you like in this smoothie. I went with soy milk this time.

How to Make a Date and Avocado Smoothie
Start by removing the pits from the dates, then add them to a blender. Next you’ll add the avocado, cocoa powder, unsweetened milk of choice, and sea salt to the blender.
Blend until smooth.
Enjoy this smoothie right away, or store it in the fridge for up to three days, then stir immediately before serving.
