This frozen kale smoothie is sweet, creamy, and delicious. Despite the generous amount of kale, it has a fresh, subtly grassy flavor rather than a strong vegetable taste. I love using frozen kale in smoothies because there’s no chopping or washing involved. It’s so easy!
Ingredients and Substitutions
Frozen kale is loaded with nutrients such as vitamin K, vitamin A, calcium, and iron. You can substitute fresh kale if you prefer, but I prefer to use frozen kale since I can keep it stocked in the freezer which means I don’t have to worry about using it up before it goes bad. It’s just there waiting for me whenever I’m in the mood for this delicious, nutrient-rich smoothie.

Banana adds creaminess and sweetness to this smoothie. Use a ripe banana for extra sweetness or opt for a less ripe banana if you prefer to keep this smoothie a bit lower in sugar.
I like to add a fresh kiwi to this smoothie. You can substitute 1/4 cup of roughly chopped apple, pineapple, or any other type of fruit you prefer.
I like to add a Medjool date to this smoothie for a little extra sweetness. You can omit the date if you prefer a lower sugar, subtly sweet smoothie, but I recommend including it if you have more of a sweet tooth.
You can use any type of unsweetened milk you like in this smoothie. I usually opt for soy milk, almond milk, or oat milk.
How to Make a Frozen Kale Smoothie
Start by adding the chopped frozen kale to a blender. Next you’ll peel the banana, break it into pieces, and add it to the blender.
Cut the kiwi in half, then use a spoon to scoop out the flesh and add it to the blender. Remove the pit from the Medjool date and add it to the blender. Then add the milk.
Blend until smooth.
Storage
Serve right away or store this smoothie in the fridge for up to three days, then stir before serving.
