Hazelnut Smoothie (Easy and Delicious)

This chocolate hazelnut smoothie is easy to make and delicious. I love the warm, earthy flavor of hazelnuts and think they work perfectly in this sweet, creamy smoothie. Give this a try if you’re looking for simple breakfast or snacks you can enjoy on the go, like this watermelon lime smoothie, which is another yummy option.

Ingredients and Substitutions

I like to use toasted hazelnuts when making this smoothie. The toasting process gives the hazelnuts and even richer, nuttier flavor. You can use raw hazelnuts if you prefer though.

Dates add a neutral sweetness with a hint of caramel-like flavor to this smoothie. I like to use Medjool dates because they are particularly sweet and moist, but any other type of date works too. If you don’t have any dates, you can substitute a ripe banana.

Cocoa powder gives this smoothie its chocolate flavor. You can use either Dutch-process cocoa powder or natural cocoa powder. Raw cacao powder works too. Or you can skip the cocoa powder and substitute 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract if you prefer.

You can use any type of unsweetened milk you like in this smoothie. I went with soy milk this time.

How to Make a Hazelnut Smoothie

Start by removing the pits from the dates, then add them to a high-powered blender. You can use a regular blender if necessary, but the texture will be slightly less creamy and a bit grittier in that case. Next you’ll add the hazelnuts, cocoa powder, sea salt, and unsweetened milk of choice to the blender.
