Maple Mustard Tofu (Easy Recipe)

Last Updated: September 16, 2026

I tested a couple of versions of this maple mustard tofu, and the final recipe is sweet, tangy, and flavorful. It’s delicious served on its own or added to salads, sandwiches, or wraps. Give it a try if you’re looking for easy plant-based dinner ideas, like this cold tofu recipe, which is another yummy option.

Ingredients and Substitutions

I recommend using extra firm tofu when making this dish. You can’t achieve the same caramelization with softer varieties of tofu.

This recipe calls for Dijon mustard, but you can substitute any type of mustard you prefer.

Be sure to use pure maple syrup when making this tofu. Table syrup or pancake syrup won’t give you the same depth of flavor.

I lightly seasoned this tofu with garlic powder, onion powder, and dried thyme. You can substitute any other dried herbs you prefer.

How to Make Maple Mustard Tofu

Add the Dijon mustard, pure maple syrup, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried thyme to a small bowl, then mix well.

Tear the tofu into bite-sized pieces and add them to a container (I don’t press the tofu first). Pour about half of the maple mustard mixture onto the tofu pieces and use your hands to gently coat them.

Reserve the rest of the maple mustard mixture in the fridge. Cover the container and transfer to the fridge to let the tofu marinate for at least 2 hours (overnight is fine too).

After marinating, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour the rest of the maple mustard mixture onto the tofu pieces and use your hands to gently coat them.

Transfer the tofu to a lightly greased sheet pan, spreading the pieces in a single layer.

Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes or until golden and caramelized.

This was a fantastic tofu recipe. I tossed it in a bit of nutritional yeast as well before I cooked it. I used Tapatio spicy yellow mustard as that’s what I had open. I think I’m gonna do it again tomorrow with dill pickle mustard!
