Easy Chocolate Covered Oranges

Last Updated: May 6, 2026

These chocolate covered oranges are an easy and delicious addition to any dessert table. Give them a try if you’re looking for simple homemade treats, like these chocolate covered figs, which are another yummy option.

Ingredients and Substitutions

I like to use fresh clementine oranges when making these treats, because their segments are bite sized which makes them easy to eat and perfect for parties. You can use any other type of orange you prefer (but I don’t recommend using frozen or canned oranges).

I like using dark chocolate because the subtle bitterness contrasts so nicely with the bright, tangy flavor of the oranges. You can substitute any type of chocolate you prefer.

Fresh orange zest really boosts the flavor of these treats. You can omit the zest if you’re in a hurry but I definitely recommend including it if possible.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Oranges

Start by melting the chopped dark chocolate using your preferred method:

Stovetop: Add the chopped chocolate to a pan over low heat. Stir constantly until just melted, then remove from the heat. Microwave: Heat in 20-second bursts, stirring between each, until melted.

Next you’ll transfer the melted chocolate to a small bowl.

Use a grater or zester to remove the zest from one of the oranges, then reserve. Next you’ll peel the oranges and gently pull the segments apart to separate them.
