This banana turmeric smoothie is sweet and creamy with an earthy kick from the turmeric. It’s perfect when you want a nutrient-rich and delicious breakfast or snack on the go. This smoothie is quick and easy to make.
Ingredients and Substitutions
Ground turmeric is a spice made from the ground root of the turmeric plant. It has a vibrant orange-yellow color and an earthy, slightly bitter flavor. The earthiness of the turmeric complements the sweetness of the fruit in this smoothie nicely.

Black pepper is often paired with turmeric because it boosts the absorption of curcumin, the key compound in turmeric. I also like to include it in this smoothie for a subtle hint of spice. You can omit the black pepper if you prefer.
I like to use a ripe or overripe banana when making this smoothie to add sweetness. The riper the banana, the sweeter it will be. You can use a less ripe banana if you prefer a lower sugar smoothie.
I like to use a sweet variety of apple such as Honeycrisp or Golden Delicious for added sweetness in this smoothie. For a lower sugar option, go for a tart variety like Granny Smith. Or you can substitute 2/3 cup of any type of roughly chopped fruit you prefer.
You can use any type of unsweetened milk you like in this smoothie. I went with soy milk this time, but oat milk and almond milk are my other two favorites.
How to Make a Banana Turmeric Smoothie
Peel the banana, break it into pieces, and add it to a blender. Next you’ll roughly chop the apple, removing the core, then add it to the blender. Add the unsweetened milk, turmeric, and optional black pepper to the blender.
Blend until smooth.
